Open Sea Father's Day/Man's Birthday

I didn't see the Open Sea on the Retired List, so I'm hoping it is still going to be a wonderful quill in our quiver of great stamp sets, even after the new catalog comes out June 1. This set is so versatile that I'll show 5 quick man-type cards I made using it.

The base is Neutrals Ivory, topped with a couple of different patterns from the retired Designer Paper Nautical Expedition.

All the stamping is done on Very Vanilla.  Using the passenger list from the stamp set, stamped with Soft Suede and distressed.  Then the old-fashioned clipper ship is stamped in Early Espresso and the compass from the set is added in Riding Hood Red. I also stamped the anchor from the set.

A strip of 1-1/4" Striped Grosgrain in Chocolate Chip, pinched in one spot with Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine, which also attached the anchor.

Here's another take on the same set, using different pieces of the same designer paper, more accents in Riding Hood Red. The globe has been stamped in Not Quite Navy and the ship is propped up with Dimensionals. The Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine was wrapped three times around, but behind the ship.
Along the same lines, but with still a different flavor, I colored the ship and water with Stampin' Write Markers in Not Quite Navy and Early Espresso, then raised up on Dimensionals over the globe. Backed with a piece of Riding Hood Red and a piece of Not Quite Navy and finished with a strip of 1-1/4" Striped Grosgrain in Riding Hood Red, with the stamped compass at the top, a Mini Silver Brad through the center.

And because this set is so versatile, I made two pretty easy man-cards (I always have trouble with these) that are suitable for birthday, anniversary, or friendly thanks.  The sentiment is from Word Play and on both, I stamped the message twice and punched out the little globe with the 3/4" Circle Punch in contrasting/reverse color scheme, then popped the globe up with a Dimensional.

If you now think you cannot live without this beautiful Open Sea set, it is write-in item #123030 in Wood for $26.95 and #123032 in Clear-Mount for $18.95.  It was carried over from a Mini Catalog from last summer, I believe and when it was carried over, we were told it would be good until the new big catalog comes out, which is June 1, 2012!!!!

Thanks for looking,
Carole
